What you can do

  • Write a professional PDF cover letter entirely in your browser.
  • Choose from four letter designs with an accent colour that matches your resume.
  • See a live preview — every edit updates the PDF instantly.
  • Insert ready-made paragraph starters by situation instead of facing a blank page.
  • Run a letter check: length, one-page fit, and whether it is addressed to a real person.
  • Download the PDF or open it in the techyworks PDF editor for more edits.

How to write your cover letter

  1. Add your details — or pull them from your resume in one click.
  2. Name the company and role — the greeting and subject line fill in automatically.
  3. Write the paragraphs — an opening, evidence with numbers, why this company, then a short close.
  4. Review the letter check on the side, then download your PDF.

Why there is no ATS score here

Resumes are parsed by software, but cover letters are overwhelmingly read by people. An applicant-tracking percentage on a letter gives false confidence rather than useful advice, so we deliberately do not show one. Your letter is checked on what a human reader actually notices: a sensible length, fitting on one page, being addressed to a named person, naming the role, and containing no unfinished placeholders.

Frequently asked questions

Is the cover letter builder free?

Yes. You can write, preview, and download a professional PDF cover letter for free — no account, no subscription, and no watermark on the finished file.

Does my cover letter leave my device?

No. The builder runs entirely in your browser. Your details, the company you are applying to, and everything you write stay on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers.

How long should a cover letter be?

Between 250 and 400 words, on a single page. Shorter than that and you have not given real evidence; longer and most hiring managers stop reading. The built-in letter check tells you your word count as you type.

Can my cover letter match my resume?

Yes. If you built a resume here, click "Use my resume details" — or start from the resume builder's "Matching cover letter" button — and your name, contact details, accent colour, page size, and a matching design are carried across automatically.

Do you show an ATS score for cover letters?

No, on purpose. Resumes are parsed by software, but cover letters are overwhelmingly read by people, so an ATS percentage would give false confidence. We check the things a human reader notices instead: length, whether it fits one page, whether it is addressed to a real person, whether it names the role, and whether any placeholders are left unfilled.

What should I write if I do not know the hiring manager's name?

The greeting falls back to "Dear Hiring Manager," automatically. It is worth two minutes on the company's site or LinkedIn to find a real name though — the letter check flags a generic greeting for exactly that reason.

Can I choose A4 or US Letter?

Yes. Both page sizes are supported and the whole letter reflows to fit. The builder guesses from your browser's region — Letter in the US and Canada, A4 elsewhere — and you can change it at any time.

Can I edit the PDF afterwards?

Yes. Click "Open in editor" to send the finished letter straight into the techyworks PDF editor, where the text is real, selectable vector text you can click and retype.
